Mr. John T. Edwards, Sr.January 01, 1939 - March 22, 2013
Mr. John Thomas Edwards, Sr., 74, of Margarettsville, North Carolina, departed this life on Friday, March 22, 2013 at Veteran Administration Health Care Facility in Hampton, Virginia.
John, a son of the late Claudie Parker Edwards and David Edwards, Sr., was born on January 1, 1939 in Portsmouth, Virginia.
He received his education through the public schools of Northampton County.
John dedicated his life to serving Jehovah on September 28, 1985 and was baptized as a Jehovah Witness. He remained faithful to Him until his death. Many happy memories were made while sharing the Good News of God's Kingdom with others.
On December 24, 1960, John was united in marriage to Negolia Rawls and this union was blessed with four loving children. His wife, Negolia, preceded him in death on June 7, 2012. His son, Gilbert Edwards, also preceded him on February 20, 2010. In addition to his wife and son, John was preceded in death by his siblings: Anita, Lottie, Anna, David and Lawrence.
John retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections after 25 years of dedicated service following an automobile injury. John bore his illness well; brave and stoic to the end. It is said that, "all a person is, rests mostly on the mark they leave behind". He has certainly left his mark on all who had the honor and pleasure of knowing him.
Affectionately called and known by many of his family and friends as "J.T.", he was well-known by many and well-liked. He was fun-loving and kindhearted, and one who knew no stranger. His infectious smile captured the hearts of many. "J.T." was a good provider for his wife, children, and grandchildren and would sacrifice his needs for the good of others.
He enjoyed his dogs, hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking, and riding motorcycles.
Treasured memories will remain with his loving and devoted children: Arminta "Pam" Edwards Small (Wayne), John T. Edwards, Jr. (Sharon) and Justin T. Edwards, all of Margarettsville, NC; a caring daughter-in-law: Cheryl Douglas Edwards of Garysburg, NC; 12 wonderful grandchildren: Natasha, John, III, Quenesha, Kiara, Cherelle, Edmondia, Kiera, Isaiah, Jacob, Wayne, Michael, and Dominique; four precious great-grandchildren: John, IV, Jason, Jayden and Elijah; his caring sisters-in-law: Mae Frazier (Glen) of Garner, NC, Essie Wright (Johnnie) of Emporia, VA, Arlee Rawls of Yonkers, NY, Annie Edwards of Margarettsville, NC, and Otelia Edwards of Seaboard, NC; brothers-in-law: Willie R.
