Mr. Roy P. Greene, Jr.

September 24, 1965 - January 21, 2014

Mr. Roy Phate Green, Jr., 48, of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, departed his earthly vessel for his eternal home on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount, N.C.

Maestro Roy Phate Greene, Jr. was born September 24, 1965 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina to the late Roy Phate Greene, Sr. and Dorothy Harrison Greene.

Roy Greene, Jr., better known as Lil’ Roy, became a member of Willing Workers Miracle Tabernacle UHC under the leadership of his mother, Dr. D.L. Greene. He was one of the most outstanding musicians of all times. He started with playing the drums at a very early age. He progressed to the lead guitar, the keyboard and organ, and then began to grace us with his voice in song. He was a gifted and talented young man with an ear that was able to accompany any singer, group, or choir. His first debut was with his mother’s group known as “The Gospel Wheels”. He started his travelling career thirty years ago with the Grammy nominated, Stellar Award winner, Pastor Luther Barnes and the Sensational Sunset Jubilaires. Roy also had the privilege of travelling with the late Bishop F. C. Barnes, the Williams Brothers, the Canton Spirituals, the McDonald Sisters, Revive, the Williams Sisters, the Mighty Clouds of Joy, etc. Roy has assisted and recorded with churches in local ministries and abroad which are too numerous to mention.

For the past fourteen years, Brother Roy Greene has been the Minister of Music at The New Morning Star Church of Christ under the tutelage of Bishop R.T. McCarter. He began serving as the keyboard player with Jamming for Jesus, under the direction of Bishop Tiff McCarter. Bishop R.T. McCarter and the Morning Star church family embraced Roy as their own and celebrated him annually at his Minister of Music Appreciation Service. Morning Star was his pride and joy and he enjoyed being a servant to the ministry.

One of Roy’s favorite recorded songs was “Fill My Cup”, which he recorded with Mrs. Minnie Martin, which was played over the airways numerous times and touched the heart of the listening audience. This young man was an anointed musician, songwriter, producer and director who will never be forgotten. Just last year, he was able to get his heart’s desire which was his music studio, Lil Roy’s Sound Productions.
Roy Greene, Jr. was a man with the most humble spirit, one never to raise his voice or become angry. He would just sit quiet and smile in spite of. Roy was a man who always dressed to impress. His hair, clothes, shoes, cologne, and even his walk left a lasting impression on those in the room. Roy enjoyed being the sound technician for any occasion. He had a passion for drawing and playing basketball and would be on the court in his downtime.

He leaves to cherish his memories his daughter, Nakisha Gibbs of Greensboro, NC; step-son: Brandon Daniel of Raleigh, NC; step-daughter: Gabrielle Harrison of Rocky Mount, NC; mother: Dr. Dorothy L. Greene; sisters: Elder Shirley B. Lyles (Emanuel), Elder Linda B.
